At the 2012 London Olympics, many Ugandans had never heard of Stephen Kiprotich and yet on a warm Sunday afternoon, in the penultimate athletics competition of the Olympics, Kiprotich - taking part in his fourth marathon, won Uganda’s only GOLD.
Since then, it has almost become second nature that Uganda will pick up at least one gold medal in long distance events.
And this past Sunday (August 27) after 9 days of intense competitions with 49 different events, the World Athletics championships came to an end in Hungary's historic capital of Budapest with Victor Kiplangat crowned Men’s World Marathon Champion. His winning time - 2:08:52.
We at Ushindi Magazine, join the Athletics fraternity in Uganda and elsewhere in celebrating Victor Kiplangat.
We celebrate Stephen Kiprotich, Joshua Cheptegei, Stephen Kipsiro, Halima Nakkayi, Mercyline Chelangat, Dorcas Inzikuru, Jacob Kiplimo, Kissa and all those athletes who have dared to raise the Black, Yellow, Red stripes of our Crested Crane adorned flag.
