For a long while now, President Museveni has began his missives published on Social Media platforms such as X, with: “Fellow Ugandans and, especially, the Bazzukulu”
Reader, as you are aware, in one of our local languages, “Bazzukulu” translates to “granchildren”.
President Museveni, it can be said, is a man concerned with getting his message to the younger segments of our population. And this week, he delivered two very crucial messages. The first, authored in-flight from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was an expression of thanks to our Security Forces for maintaining Peace and Security for the Basiisi - whom he referred to as “suspected sinners” - at the Nyege Nyege festival in Jinja.
The second message, only two days after arriving from the UAE, was delivered in person while meeting “over 45,000 Bazzukulu from different secondary schools within the five divisions of Kampala city who just completed a course in Patriotism” at Kololo ceremonial grounds.
Our picture of the week, as suggested by Ms. Sharleen Nabbosa, Mr. Kinyera Alexander and Ms.Phiona Kobusingye - all Bazzukulu - is taken from this meeting of Bazzukulu at Kololo.
Our Ugandan cultures are emphatic in asserting “Honor a child and it will honor you.” So powerful is the idea of honoring children that even the Psalmist declares: “Through the praise (affection) of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies to silence the foe and the avenger.”
